About the position
Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager  will ensure the FDA White Oak Animal Program contract is managed and oversight provided to all staff. The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for the daily oversight and training assurance of the Small and Large (NHP) Veterinary Technician departments, Quarantine and Surgery Support. This position must take ownership, along with the department managers, of area operations and error resolution to ensure that daily contractual obligations are completed. They will maintain budgets, reports, performance records, area documentation. Submitting all required documentation to maintain specific requirements of the contract. They are responsible for the coaching, directing, teaching, training, and performance correction of all personnel. The Assistant Project Manager will maintain a professional business appearance and demeanor while performing or attending business functions.  

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Work Assignments are based on work requirements to meet the contract needs, which may include the following duties:

Provide competent and reasonable management, organization, direction, and oversight to all positions on the contract and specifically the Veterinary Technician Departments/Staff.

Ensure all Veterinary Technicians are appropriately trained for veterinary care and technical procedures with multiple species, as required by SOP and Program Veterinarians.

Knowledge in operations (ABSL I-II-III practices), management, and facility maintenance of AAALAC accredited facilities.

Coordinate training needs and requirements for veterinary technicians with department managers and the training department.

Create and maintain reports, forms, budgets, and communications utilizing a computer and software, i.e., Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Establishing liaison and communication with the Contract Office Representative, Project Manager, Facility Managers, compliance assurance entities, veterinarians, and research staff.

High School diploma or GED and B.S. degree in related field, B.S. in Biology or Animal Science preferred.
American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) and/or CMAR evel with at least 5 years supervisory or management experience in an animal facility with a focus on veterinary technical support.
Specialized knowledge and skill with non-human primates, rodents, other various species.
