Required Qualifications:
●BA/BS degree plus 5+ years of experience or a combination of related education and experience to equal 9 years
●>2 yrs direct managerial experience

Preferred Qualifications:
●Managerial experience of bargaining unit employees
●CVT certification
●AALAS Technician Certification
●Experience with research regulations, guidance documents, and accreditation programs
●Excellent communication skills and experience working in a university setting with diverse staff, lab researchers and research models

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
●Ability to make collaborative management decisions as co-manager of a team
●Ability to work and think independently
●Interest in mentoring, teaching, and training staff
●Working knowledge of generally accepted laboratory animal husbandry practices and animal welfare regulations
●Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, flexibility; forward-thinking, motivated to succeed in RAR’s mission
●Ability to use and adapt to new software programs
●Conflict management experience

Duties/Responsibilities:
50% – Supervision of veterinary technician staff
●Ensure staff implement proper clinical care for all species
●Coordinate personnel resources, create schedules, cover work during call-outs
●Determine appropriate staffing levels, hire, provide performance management, resolve HR issues for labor represented employees
●Mentor employees; support continued career development
●Work with clinical veterinarians to provide high quality lab animal medicine and care

25% – Technical services program management
●Maintain/enhance RAR’s technical services program
●Coordinate fulfillment of technical service requests
●Identify individuals to perform atypical services
●Coordinate RAR Diagnostic Lab services; maintain necropsy space and diagnostic equipment

5-10% – Provide support and backup for specialized services/programs
●Rodent health surveillance and quarantine programs
●USDA covered species procurement and preventative medicine program
●Supplies inventory program, ordering management, controlled substance program, pharmacy operations

5-10% – Clinical and Technical Duties
●Perform clinical case triaging, management, training and other technical duties
●Weekend and after hours work may be required

5% – Develop & maintain cross unit communication & relationships within RAR
