About the position
Job Summary:
The Animal Care Technician will perform all tasks related to the day-to-day operation of the animal research facility. These tasks will include animal care and husbandry and facility sanitization and maintenance. The Animal Care Technician will also support basic research procedures, as directed by the Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience with laboratory rodent husbandry
Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:
AVMA accredited associates degree in Veterinary Technology or Laboratory Animal Science preferred
AALAS certification preferred
Experience working in a scientific or research environment preferred
Experience with anesthesia procedures or surgery preferred
Experience with management of transgenic animal lines preferred

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Basic knowledge of federal regulations regarding animal maintenance and handling
Knowledge of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (“the Guide”)
Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, faculty, technicians, animal care workers, inspectors and veterinarians
Experience sanitizing rooms and equipment
Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports as mandated by the Animal Welfare Act and “the Guide”
Ability to make careful observation and objective assessment
Basic knowledge of research animal biology, husbandry and health
Knowledge of basic animal research procedures
Ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to anticipate and solve problems
Ability to work independently

Shift:
Business hours, occasional weekends or evenings

Expected Hiring Range/Pay Disclosure:
$19.00 – $21.00
