Duties and responsibilities
Director of Laboratory Animal Facilities is responsible for the provision and coordination of laboratory animal services for utilization by staff and students in the medical biological and behavioral sciences.

• Assures appropriate veterinary care for laboratory animals as part of a team of veterinarians and by directing disease control, prevention and euthanasia and provides clinical veterinary care to laboratory animals as part of the veterinary team.
• Maintains regulatory compliance of all facilities based on Federal and State guidelines and AAALAC requirements.
• Works in concert with UB IACUC to assure that the animal care and use program of UB and the LAF adheres to all federal, state and local guidelines. Maintains DOH and DEA licenses for controlled drug use.
• Works in concert with UB IACUC to assure that the animal care and use program of UB and the LAF adheres to all federal, state and local guidelines.
• Has principal responsibility for site visits and inspections by oversight agencies.
• Directs/instructs project directors, faculty, technical and professional staff in the proper use and handling of animals as part of instructional and research programs;
• Provides professional consultation with academic staff and undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in connection with research involving the use of laboratory animals;
• Supervises research by graduate and professional students as required;
• Oversee and maintain the proper safety guidelines and procedures for personnel and manage the Occupational Health and Safety Program (OHMP) for all animal users at UB. Responsible for disaster planning in conjunction with UB Police and EH&S
• Ensures appropriate veterinary participation in the membership of the IACUC including review of IACUC protocols and amendments in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
• Plans for the development of animal facilities to meet the needs of expanding programs;
• Oversees staff and manages all financial and budgetary aspects of the facility;
• May participate in instructional activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with license to practice in New York State
• Ability to establish Federal DEA and NYS Controlled Substance licenses
• 4 Years of Supervisory experience in a Lab Animal Facility

Salary: $140,000-160,000
